It’s Christmas Again, and Still No Way to Bethlehem

Jan 6, 2011 (IPS) -By Eva Bartlett- “We try to be happy and celebrate with our families during Christmas, but the atmosphere is not cheery as in other parts of the world,” says Hossam Tawwil. And as around Christmas on Dec. 25, so for Orthodox Christians preparing to celebrate Christmas Jan. 7.
“We are from Palestine and our lives aren’t easy: we are under occupation, under siege, and we’re prevented from visiting our holy city, Bethlehem,” says Tawwil, Member of Parliament in Gaza. “We don’t truly feel like we are celebrating holy days, not in the way we’d like to.”
