DPRK North Korea

“Eva Bartlett in North Korea – Going Behind the Media Iron Curtain”–The Taylor Report & 21st Century Wire

21st Century Wire published an interview I had done with Phil Taylor on his Taylor Report, making it into a video using some of my publicly uploaded photos from the DPRK. The 21 Wire post follows…

Eva Bartlett in North Korea

21st Century Wire says…

Intrepid, independent journalist, Eva Bartlett, has recently returned from a fact-finding trip to North Korea, in her words, ” one of the most vilified nations in the world today”. What she saw and recorded during her week-long trip defies all western attempts to portray this proud nation as a nest of iniquity and oppression.

In the last few days, Bartlett gave an interview to the Taylor Report during which she revealed her valuable insights which take us behind the media iron curtain that separates us from the reality of life in North Korea.

21st Century Wire has taken this interview and created a video, showcasing just some of Bartlett’s stunning photography and video footage taken during her stay in North Korea, as Phil Taylor says:

“North Korea does not exist in black and white. Witness Eva Bartlett’s photos and be struck by the colour.

Despite a barrage of propaganda designed to portray a monochromatic dystopia, North Korea is a vibrant country populated by real human beings. Phil interviews Eva, whose timely voyage to the DPRK shines a light on a land darkened by our own ignorance.”

Listen to Eva Bartlett and enjoy the poignant & evocative images. WATCH:

Below is a recent interview/discussion on North Korea with host Edward Rhymes, who wrote:

Eva Bartlett fresh from her journey to the DPRK in North Korea, talks about her insights and discusses w/Edward Rhymes the issues facing that nation. Ed and Eva talk about the provocative war games that US have engaged in on right outside North Korea – and North Korea as the simulated enemy in these war games; the anti-North Korean propaganda machine the West’s quashing of North & South Korea’s reunification and the desires of the North Korean people.

It is difficult to come away from talking w/Eva without being better informed. She puts it on the line in her travels and she is uncompromisingly honest in her work as an investigative journalist. Join us, here, on #IndependentMediaMonday.

*(March 2017): “… South Korea will significantly increase the rewards it pays to defectors from the north who treasonously disclose state secrets or surrender military equipment. High-ranking North Korean officials will receive $860,000 for defecting and selling out their compatriots, while pilots will be offered the same to fly their warplanes to South Korea. Sailors who surrender their warships to Seoul will also receive $860,000. At the same time, payouts from $43,000 to $260,000 will be handed to North Korean military personnel who defect, if they bring with them lesser weapons, such as tanks or machine guns. ” Read the entire article by Stephen Gowans, including much-needed historical context, here: “Washington Considers Military Action Against North Korea to Force Regime Change

Patreon: Yes, People Exist in Pyongyang

A common comment I’ve gotten on the fraction of photos/videos I’ve posted from North Korea (as I continue to sift through hundreds of them) is the lack of people on the streets. Bearing in mind that I haven’t yet posted videos and photos from busy places like the metro/subway system and public places, I’m sharing these screenshots from a video of a busy public square near the train station, a square that was filled with people, mostly sitting, each time I passed it.

Talking North Korea/DPRK on UK Column News

I joined the UK Column yesterday to talk about some aspects of my recent trip to the DPRK/North Korea. Short segment and I’m still processing all my notes, but interesting conversation with Mike Robinson and Patrick Henningsen.

UK Column, Sep 5, 2017

“Mike Robinson and Patrick Henningsen with today’s UK Column News, including a conversation with investigative journalist Eva Bartlett, recently returned from North Korea.”

Photos from a week in the DPRK

Children in Pyongyang Orphanage before performing drumming. August 29, 2017.

From August 24-31, I visited the DPRK (North Korea) as part of a very small delegation interested in hearing from North Koreans themselves about their lives, the US sanctions and incessant war manouevres, their history and more. A sample of photos and videos, with more to follow soon.
